This cheerful cabin is a great base for a relaxing country get-away only 2-½ hours north of the Golden Gate in Mendocino County. Located near Philo in Anderson Valley, it is a few minutes away from some of the state's best wineries in one of Northern California's premier Pinot Noir appellations.
When you’re not tasting wine, you can take a leisurely 20 minute drive through beautiful redwoods to the beach, and from there, travel north or south to explore the sparkling Mendocino Coast.
The newly renovated cabin is a large 16 x 28-foot room with a queen bed in the sleeping loft. A small hallway leads to the tiled bath. A fully equipped kitchen lets you prepare meals just the way you want them. In the evening, curl up with a good book in front of the easy-to-use gas fireplace.
The sunny covered front porch looks out on a meadow and small garden where birds sing and lizards bask. A back balcony provides a shady place to sit outdoors next to the tall trees. The property is 10 acres and you are welcome to explore it or just pull up a chair under the walnut tree and listen to the sounds of the country.
No Smoking inside or out helps assure that nothing gets between you and the fresh scents of forest and field.
$165-$175 per night, depending on the season, for up to two people. Minimum two-night stay. Additional person $35. There is a surprisingly comfortable twin bed sized chair sleeper in the main room in addition to the queen-sized bed in the loft.
If you can stay a week, your seventh night is free.
The kitchen is stocked with basics like condiments, spices, and tea, but no food is provided. This is a vacation cabin, not a bed and breakfast. The owner lives about 1½ miles away.
Half of the payment is due upon reservation. Sorry, we’re not set up for credit cards. Upon receipt of your check, you will receive detailed directions to the cabin.
There is no TV, but radio reception is good. Cell service is spotty in the cabin, but is decent (by country standards) up by the pump house in the upper meadow. A chair is provided to help guide you to the “hot spot.”
The main quirk of the cabin is the sleeping loft, which is accessed by steep, but secure ladder-like stairs. (See photo). Also, the shower is great, but the bathtub is not a luxurious size. Sorry, no hot tub. Although we love animals, the owner’s allergies make it impossible to accommodate pets.
